One of the most important stages of transportation of any cargo is loading/unloading. During the movement of cargo this stage repeats several times - when the cargo is picked up from the customer, when it is transported from one transport to another and also when it is placed into the warehouse.

Elevatingcrane – intended for lifting and moving of big weights, cargoes (features of the crane design allow it to move with cargo on a hook that is especially convenient at unloading and installation works);

Truck crane – a mobile elevating crane on the automobile chassis. The drive of mechanisms of the crane is hydraulic from the pump put in action by the engine of the chassis. Manipulator crane –a load-lifting hydraulic device (crane-manipulator facility) used for cargo handling works, at small weights (up to 20 tons) and high mobility.

Lift (with a telescopic arrow and a basket) is intended for vertical moving of cargoes and people in a cage moving along rigid directing lines.

Loading Cargo on the SFER

The Squarefoot Estate Railway hauls aggregates, like sand and gravel, from
the crusher to the freight transfer point. The cars are loaded by gravity when
they're placed within the loading shed. Actually, a Giant Hand behind the
scenes does the dirty work. To the spectator, the scene looks just like
the real thing where men with shovels inside the building load the cars

Unloading Cargo

Offloading the freight is done by gravity, using a special tipper car.
The locomotive pushes the car onto a ramp beside the track. A lever
built into the car's body rides up the ramp, tilting the body more and more
as it rises. Eventually, gravity forces the load out through the hinged
door into the chute, which directs it to a truck waiting below (not
modeled here, but represented by a translucent box marked
"Intercontinental Trucking Company.")

Surface (barrier) Filtration Mechanisms

Surface filtration (also known as barrier filtration) is the most common type of filtration in the food industry. In surface filtration, a porous surface retains the particles solely on grounds of particle size. In contrast with depth filtration, there is

a definite cut-out size (maximum size of particles passing through) and retention of particles above the cut-out size is absolute.

Surface filtration processes fall into two categories:

1. Dead-end filtration (also known as frontal filtration or cake filtration): the direction of suspension flow is normal to the filter surface. The particles are stopped (come to a dead-end) on the filter surface and accumulate as a “cake”. The familiar laboratory filtration operation is an example of dead-end filtration.

2. Cross-flow filtration (also known as tangential filtration, Murkes, 1988): The direction of suspension flow is parallel (tangential) to the filter surface. The retained particles are carried forwards by the flowing suspension.
