2. Use

a) We use going to to talk about something in the future which we can see as a result of something in the present.

Look at those black clouds in the sky. It’s going to rain.

 

b) We also use going to to talk about what we intend to do in the future. We use going to when we have already decided to do something.

“Why have you moved all the furniture out of this room?” “I’m going to clean the carpet.”

“Jane has just sold her car.” “Is she going to buy a new one?”

a) We use the present simple to talk about repeated actions or habits.

b) We use the present simple to talk about situations which are permanent (continuing for a long time).

c) We also use the present simple to talk about general truths.
