An explanatory note

 

Educational and methodical complex of discipline "Information control and combating international terrorism and drug trafficking" is made for the implementation of NIPL policies of the department of International Relations in the direction of “International Relations” according to the academic programs of Kazak Ablai khan University of International Relations and World Languages, and is studied in semester 5 within the Bachelor's program.

The program of the discipline «Information control and combating international terrorism and drug trafficking» brings students the study the study of terrorism shot from a relatively niche activity in political science to a top national priority for many governments. Over the past fifteen years, the US government alone has handed tens of millions of dollars to researchers to study how and why people become terrorists, and the means by which states can secure themselves from the threat terrorism poses. The ‘Global War on Terror’ has cost Canada, the US, the UK, and numerous other states an enormous price in money and in blood. And the scholarly literature on terrorism and counterterrorism has blossomed as a result.

There are numerous questions we might ask about the always-controversial subject of terrorism, and those studying it have sought to answer them. The social science literature features significant discussions on what terrorism is, why it happens, how it works, the ways it has evolved, and what governments have been doing to counter it. And of course, scholars have also investigated how the label of ‘terrorist’ is used rhetorically and politically. These discussions have incorporated insights and approaches from a variety of academic disciplines, and the field of terrorism studies incorporates work in international relations, comparative politics, history, sociology, and psychology.

This discipline introduces students to key concepts, research and analysis in the economics, politics, sociology and anthropology of terrorism. It enables students to understand the nature of both internal and international terrorism and its role as an intrinsic part of broader processes of development, social change, in order to gain a more theoretical and comprehensive understanding of terrorism.

 

Aim and objectives of the discipline.

The discipline aims to show all complexity and importance of information control and information security in foreign and domestic policy of a state as well as in international relations. The course discusses demonstrate full negative sides of drugs and drug trafficking in the world politics. The course aims to examine the emergence and evolution of terrorism on the course of history from ancient times to nowadays. The course aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of terrorism and terrorism politic through:

- the impact of 9/11 attacks on US policy in shaping a new world order under the pretext of fighting and rooting out international terrorism;

- analyze all aspects of terrorism

 

2. Prerequisite of the discipline:history of Foreign Countries, The Foreign Policy of Kazakhstan, History of International Relations, The Foundation of Geopolitics, History of foreign countries, History of International Relations, Contemporary Problems of International Relations, Diplomatic and Consular Services, etc.

3. The of discipline is of based onof knowledge, skills and experiences, received of from of studying of the of following of courses: “Introduction to IR”, “Regional of conflicts”, “Modern problems of international relations”.

 

 

4. The objective of the course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to:

- the main stages and periods of history of terrorism;

- basic historical facts and dates of information control and combating international terrorism and drug trafficking;

- to master the skills of a geopolitical analysis and to learn the specifics of terrorism;

- to understand the nature of international terrorism and political processes;

to be able to:

- comprehensively and critically analyze historical and modern sources;

- sequentially and logically answer the questions, to screen and review reports;

- to make conclusions, analyze and process a large amount of diversified information of historical processes and events;

- to study information control and combating international terrorism and drug trafficking independently under the guidance of a teacher.

On completion of this course, students should be able to show a critical understanding of:

- work with different historical sources, as well as the teaching aids, electronic-books, internet sources, periodicals, maps, schemes, etc.

- the skills of self - analysis of complex and various historical processes and events.

- Theoretical perspectives on terrorism.

  - Ways and principles for studying terrorism and development.

 

Competence, formed as a result of the studying of the discipline

- to form students' understanding of geopolitical threats  concepts;

- show the logic of the projects and programs transition countries of Europe from authoritarian to democratic regimes;

- a comparative analysis of models of democratization and highlight their features in different countries of the EU;

- form a representation of the economic projects and programs of the EU countries;

- to analyze the ways and forms of economic transformation in the EU, to identify general and specific in the process of economic geopolitical threats;

- to give an idea about the main directions of geopolitical threats;

- to acquaint students with the available research on the course, including with key geopolitical threats concepts to instill in them the skills of independent work with sources and literature.
