Green School of the Year contest is held in the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some 'green events'.

Green schools teach children to be environmentally friendly.

I think we should start a recycling program. We can recycle all our paper, plastic, metal.

Sudents can do many things around the school. They can clean up and plant new trees. Also we can start a composting program. We can use all our cafeteria lunch waste for composting and then use it on the school flower-beds.

To become a Green School we need to start learning about the importance of living in harmony with our natural world and learning how to live without using up the planet's resources faster than the planet can produce them.

1. Now let`s talk about weather and climate. What is happening to weather and climate nowadays?

Climate is the weather a certain place has over a long period of time. Climate has a very important influence on plants, animals and humans. Some scientists think that the world is becomming hotter.

If you compare winter and summer temperatures in Belarus at the beginning of our century and at its end you will see that climate has really changed. Winters have become warmer. Sometimes there is little snow in January, and there were winters when it rained on the New Year's Eve. Many people say that it is so because of the greenhouse effect. During the last 100 years people have produced a lot of carbon dioxide.

As we see the climate in different parts of the world changes a little from year to year. These changes can be dangerous for our planet, which needs protection.

Are you weather dependent?

The weather often changes and brings cold and heat, sunshine and rain, frost and snow. One day is often unlike the next. I don’t think that I am weather dependent, I just put on the right clothes and go anywhere I need or I can change my plans and stay at home or at my friend’s place.

What questions would you ask a meteorologist?

- How does a weatherman predict the weather?

- How did you become a meteorologist?

- What tools are used to do measures and to collect data about the weather?

- Is true that the weather can be indicated with the help of frogs?

- What observation did ancient people make about the behaviour of insects, animals and birds before a storm?

What can you advise a person who wants to become a meteorologist?

I should say to become a meteorologist one should study hard and learn science. I think a person should learn how to use a barometer (it measures air pressure), an anemometer(it measures wind speed), a psychrometer(it measures the humidity in the air). Computers and satellite images are also used by professional meteorologists. That’s why one should study computer technologies.

As a matter of fact, the weather is not always predicted accurately. Even with all of these special tools and knowledge, a meteorologist still has to make an educated guess about what will happen.

5. They say there`s no bad weather, there are bad clothes. What do you think about it?

If you have a proper clothes you can go everywhere you need and do everything you want. The weather often changes and brings cold and heat, sunshine and rain, frost and snow. One day is often unlike the next.

As for me, in summer my favourite clothes are jeans and a T-shirt. When it’s hot and sunny, I wear a cap and sunglasses. When it’s a bit colder, I wear jeans, socks and trainers when I go to the park with my friends. Sometimes there is heavy rain, so that an umbrella or a raincoat is necessary if I don't want to get wet through.

In winter I always wear a sweater and trousers. When I go out, I put on a coat or fur-coat and winter boots. As in Belarus it’s usually snowy and frosty in winter, I wear a hat, a scarf and gloves.

It is very popular recreation area in our country.
