Let’s talk about school traditions. What can you tell me about the place where you study?

Everyone remembers his or her school and the first school day. It’s an unforgettable event. When I think of my school some pictures come to my memory: I’m on my way to school, flowers in hand, my parents accompany me, children with bags and flowers.

I went to school in 20_ _. This school is a three stored building. When you enter the school yard you can see beautiful flowers. To the left of the school building there is a big playground. When you enter the school you can see a large hall and a cloak-room. On the ground floor there is also a gym, a dining-room and classrooms for primary school pupils.

Classrooms for senior pupils, the assembly hall, the teachers’ room are on the upper floors. There are special classrooms for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, History, Geography, English, and Russian.

Does your school have any traditions?

My school life is connected not only with studies but with many other important things. When I think about my school years I recollect a lot of events. Many of them became traditions because they happen every year on the same dates. Some traditions are similar in all Belarusian schools, some are unique.

The school year starts on the 1st of September. This day is special for all: school children, their teachers and parents. The day starts with the school gathering when all classes and teachers stand in front of the school and listen to the welcoming speeches of their teachers, schoolmates and parents. Students look really nice in their new school uniforms. Everyone is excited to see their school friends and teachers after long summer holidays. After the school gathering teachers take their classes to their classrooms for the first lesson. When the lesson is over, students may have a class event – a picnic or a walk in the park or a class trip. The events on this day are usually the same every year but everyone waits for this day, likes it and remembers it.

Of course we never forget to congratulate our teachers on Teacher’s Day

Very soon we’ll have our last and traditional School leavers’ Party. ( the Last Bell….)

I think I will never forget my school, teachers, classmates and our school traditions.

Ask me what a kind of pupil I was at school.

- Did you like your school when you were a pupil?

- What was your favourite subject?

- Did you have classes on Saturday?

- How much time did it take you to do your homework?

Which school club would you advise your classmates to join?

Our school has a wide range of out-of-class activities. There is a number of school clubs and societies to meet the interests of each pupil. They offer opportunities to develop different talents and skills and test them in different school events.

For example if you are fond of music and singing you may join our “Singing club”. If you are keen on sports you’ll have a lot of opportunities to choose any kind of sport club in our school. You see, “Where is a will there is a way.”

Some people think that it is necessary to study foreign languages Do you agree with them?

Yes, I do. Nowadays it’s almost impossible to imagine any profession without global communication. English is becoming the language of international trade. It is essential for the development of international contacts in the sphere of political, social, business and cultural relations. It enables people to find work almost anywhere in the world.

Let’s talk about your future career. What would you like to become?

The problem of choosing the future profession has always been very important. The profession a person chooses in many ways determines his future life. For most people choosing a career is not an easy task. It is one of the most important decisions one makes in life. The properly chosen career makes a person happy and successful for the rest of his life.

This year I'm leaving school. I have already decided what career to choose. I would like to be a psychologist. I want to help people to solve their problems. I want to help them to understand their inside world, to help them to be confident. I love working with people and children. I think it's a difficult job, because one should love people, take care of them, support them. This profession is rather new and hence very interesting. Psychologists work with people from different layers of society. I realize that my dream can come true only if I work hard.

I want to become a computer programmer. I am interested in computers. My favourite subjects in school are mathematics, physics and, of course, computer science. My hobby is computer games and computer programming. I have a computer at home and can spend hours working at it. It is much easier to do things on computer, for example to write a composition. I think that the profession of programmer can give many opportunities. Computers are the most rapidly changing sphere of modern technology. We are living in the age of information. So after I finish school I want to enter the university and study computer science.

Do you think your life will change when you leave school? Why(not)?

Yes, I think my life will change when I leave school. But it will depend on what way I choose.

I’ll try to pass exams successfully, then to enter the university to become a good specialist. So I believe my future job will bring me only satisfaction. I’m sure I’ll meet interesting people on my way.

What questions will you ask your future employer when applying for a job?

- How much is the salary?

- Is any experience required?

- Have got any other jobs?

- Do you need any qualifications?

- Is there any dress-code in your office?

Give your schoolmates some advise on what they need to do to create a favourable impression either at a job interview or at an important exam.

First of all you should think about your appearance. Dress smartly, wear a shirt or a tie. It shows that you are well brought-up and responsible. Enter the room with a bright and friendly smile. Look at the person you are talking to. Don’t use your mobile phone. Switch it off beforehand.
