Филипп Котлер: «Коррупция противоречит философии маркетинга»




—Как изменился маркетинг за последние десять лет? Ведь многие российские компании существуют примерно столько, соответственно, знания маркетологов приобретались лет десять назад.

За это время маркетинг прошел четыре основные стадии. Первая стадия характеризуется сильной «ориентацией на продукт». Это было время, когда производство не достигло еще того массового уровня, который мы имеем на данный момент, и количество товаров было ограничено. Соответственно, они пользовались спросом, и усилия по маркетингу сводились к минимуму. Вторая стадия — так называемая «ориентация на продажи» — наступила тогда, когда производство достигло определенного уровня, рынок наполнился товарами, а компании начали вести активную торговлю. Третья стадия, известная как стадия «сегментной ориентации», ознаменовала переход к продажам, направленным не на весь рынок, как это было ранее, а на определенные сегменты с совершенно конкретными задачами.

Компании адаптировали товары, услуги и методы взаимодействия с потребителями к конкретным целевым сегментам рынка. И, наконец, четвертая стадия — стадия «ориентации на потребителя». Она наступила тогда, когда компании решили собрать и использовать максимально полезным способом информацию о каждом индивидуальном участнике целевого сегмента рынка.

—Существует ли в профессиональной среде правильное понимание самого термина «маркетинг»? Насколько часто встречается подмена этого понятия другими, смежными?

На самом деле у маркетинга множество определений, которые отделяют его от смежных понятий просто рекламы или просто продажи. А какого-либо универсального определения не существует. Мое определение таково: «Маркетинг — это искусство и наука правильно выбирать целевой рынок, привлечь, сохранить и нарастить количество потребителей посредством создания у покупателя уверенности, что он представляет собой наивысшую ценность для компании».

—Общеизвестно, что российская экономика довольно сильно коррумпирована. Успешность компании зачастую зависит не от профессионализма ее менеджеров, а от ее связей с госструктурами и правоохранительными органами. В этой связи будет ли здесь работать традиционная теория маркетинга и должны ли компании корректировать свою стратегию в соответствии с этими реалиями?

Коррупция самым отрицательным образом влияет на естественный процесс конкуренции. В ситуации стандартных рыночных отношений покупатель делает свой выбор в пользу той или иной компании, основываясь на оптимальном сочетании цены и качества. Например, логичным кажется, что компания, которая решила сделать закупку грузовиков для осуществления поставок своих товаров, приобретает машины той марки, которая наилучшим образом отвечает ее потребностям и обеспечивает оптимальное соотношение цены и качества. Однако, если человек, ответственный за покупку, получает взятку и делает выбор в пользу товаров худшего качества, компания несет соответствующие убытки. Таким образом, коррупция — это явление, противоречащее всей философии маркетинга, философии оптимизации эффективности производства и продаж.

—Какие только зарождающиеся новые тенденции вы видите в маркетинге? В настоящее время развитие получают интернет-технологии, а что, по-вашему, будет дальше?

Новые технологии продолжают открывать новые возможности перед маркетологами. Полагаю, продолжит расти значение «маркетинга по базам данных», будет развиваться «маркетинг отношений с клиентами». Можно увидеть и тенденцию к дальнейшему развитию автоматизированных продаж и маркетинга без участия человека. Компании придут к использованию маркетинговых «пультов управления», чтобы контролировать все маркетинговые операции. А традиционная реклама будет постепенно вытесняться Интернетом и связями с общественностью.

Text 1  What is a brand?

Most companies decide to brandtheir products or services by using a name, a symbol or a design to identify it and differentiateit fromthe competitive set- that is, rival brands. Consumers can easily recognize the brand and the brand values- what it stands for.A brand nameis the name given to a product or a rangeof products - goods of a similar type that are marketed together. This may be the same name as the company (for example, Coca-Cola) or it may be a different name (e.g. Apple's iPod). The trademarkis the legal protection for the brand, its logo and its brand name.

A brand manageris responsible for branding- creating, maintaining and building a brand. He or she works on all aspects of the brand:

the brand image How the consumers see the brand: the values they associate with it.
the brand essence One core concept which defines the brand. It is normally expressed in a short phrase or just one word. A good example is 'Volvo equals safety'.
the brand promise The explicit promise the organization makes to its target audiences, including employees, about the quality and use of the brand.
the brand vision The brand vision communicates where the brand is and where the brand can go. It talks about the values the brand has today and the values it will need in the future, as well as the communication tools needed to achieve this.

Text 2 The  Brand platform

The Brand platform consists of:

- the brand vision;                                                                                      - the brand mission – how to take action on the brand vision;                  - the brand values;

- the brand personality - the human characteristics associated with the                              

brand;

- the brand tone of voice - the language the brand uses to convey its values    

(serious, humorous, etc.).

Brand management,the application of marketing techniques to a brand, was first used by Proctor and Gamble in the 1930s. The brand strategy shows how thebrand will meet its objectives. It influences the overall business strategy of a company to ensure consistent brand behaviour,meaning what the brand does and how it acts in all advertising media, and consistent brand experience- the exposure and interaction a consumer has with the brand. Total brandingrefers to a consistent approach to brand behaviour and brand experiences across all possible touchpoints- wherever the consumer has a brand experience: TV, out-of-home, at a friend's house, etc.

 

A marketing manager writes an email about brand strategy to his contact in a communications agency:

Text 3 Brand values

Brand valuesare the code by which the brand lives and operates. They express how the brand wants to be seen by its consumers. Every brand has its own values, but there are some common brand values, which can be divided into subsets:

Trust me

A brand may be respected because it shows it is knowledgeable about, or has a very good understanding of, its area of expertise (for example, computing or finance) or its consumers. Many quality national newspapers have a strong heritage - they have built strong, lasting values over many years. They are trustworthy and dependable brands, often with an international outlook - reporting news from other countries. Some brands speak about their trustworthiness - their integrity, honesty and responsibility - and act in ways that are fair for the consumer and the environment. Other brands demonstrate their leadership qualities - the skills and knowledge to lead others. The Linux operating system and some open source software organizations allow consumers to contribute to their brand values: being accessible, diverse, inclusive and independent

Customer satisfaction is key for brands that offer values like great taste, low cost, value for money or good quality. Brands speak about flexibility, simplicity and practicality. Being easy to use is a positive value. Some brands focus on a healthy lifestyle and are nutritional, fresh and natural. Some brands show they are caring and want to look after their consumers. A good example is the toy retailer Toys "R" Us, which includes educational as one of its values.

Companies can use experiences and qualities as brand values:

discovery: the brand helps you discover or find out about things

pleasure: the brand gives you an enjoyable experience

passionate: the consumer and the brand share the same passions or strong feelings

inspirational: the brand can inspire the consumer to think about new things

vibrant or fun: the brand offers amusing experiences

active or dynamic: the brand is enthusiastic and has a lot of energy; it is constantly changing and adapting to the consumer

luxury: the brand promises high levels of comfort and beauty at a high price

Brands often mirror their consumers' values with their own. Young and modern brands will list in their brand values qualities like modern, innovative, creative and technological. More traditional brands will give their values as classic, heritage, authentic and original.

Describing brand values

When describing brand values we can use both adjectives and nouns. We can say 'We are a modern and innovative brand' or 'Our values are modernity and innovation'.

Other possible adjectives are: dependable, diverse, luxury, active, dynamic, vibrant, inspirational, fun, pleasurable, technological, classic, authentic, original.

3.16 LANGUAGE PRACTICE.   Relationships between facts.

Study these examples. Then choose words from the box to complete the sentences that follow. Use your dictionary and grammar book to help you decide which words are both appropriate and grammatically correct in each case.

 

Despite the evidence of the value of brands, creating and sustaining that capital are often neglected by companies.
