Hotel

Nowadays people travel on business and as tourists much more than in the past. Accommodations as well as rates vary from hotel to hotel. There are deluxe hotels, the most luxurious and more expensive hotels.

There are resort hotels used for entertainment or recreation. There are also a lot of motels which grew with the development of highways.

Most hotels offer single and double rooms, for one or two people respectively. If a guest requires more than one room, some hotels have fine suites consisting of several rooms.

In the lobby there is a registration, or front desk where guests check in and check out, pick up and deposit keys, and so on. The check in procedure takes a few minutes. The guest is given a registration card to fill out. The desk clerk enters the guests’ room number, the room rate, the arrival and departure dates into the computer.

When the formalities are over, the bellman shows the guests to their rooms and assists them with their baggage. He can also run errands for you. For each service rendered the bellman will expect a tip.

Service is supposed to begin at the door. So another employee who is important during the check in procedure is a doorman. He assists guests in and out of taxis and cars, calls for cabs, gives directions in the city.

If any information is required, it can be received at the hotel s information desk which is supervised by a concierge.

A hotel bill can be paid in several ways. Besides cash, credit cards are universally accepted. In fact, many hotels require their guests to produce a credit card when registrating. Otherwise, a cash deposit is required. The guests may also pay with travelers checks when checking out.

FAMILIARIZATION TOURISM

Familiarization tourism is often called just FAM tourism. It means that a business company sends its staff on educational tours to its branches or other business companies in other cities and countries.

If a travel agency sends its travel clerks on FAM tours, it means that they will have educational visits to a tourist destination. There they will get familiar with local facilities, hotels, restaurants, and attractions. They will study a tour operator’s or local travel agency’s practice.

The main purpose of travel clerks on a FAM tour is to get necessary knowledge from personal experience. When the clerks return home, they will know what to offer and to explain to their customers about the destination.

Some experts say that FAM tourism is a part of incentive tourism. On the one hand, such a tour is an incentive to the travel agency staff selling holidays. On the other hand, it is a benefit to the tour operator who arranges them.

FAM tourism is very popular and will become even more popular in future.
